All Practice Dances are held at the Madison Studio
1410 Greenway Cross
Here it is! Your chance to practice all the new, fun steps you have been learning in your dance classes and private lessons. Sometimes the next hardest step is taking your dancing public and actually going to a dance where there are other people. Our beginner practice dances are the perfect way for you to try you new steps out in a semi-public environment with other beginners in a friendly supportive environment. Don't know what dance it is? We will tell you what they are. If you don't know that one yet, do what you do know or want to practice.
Couples and singles are welcome. We know you feel more comfortable with
someone you know, but we do encourage dancers to ask someone else to dance once
in a while. It improves your dancing and helps you make new friends. We want
everyone to feel welcome and included.

Upcoming dates:
Starting in January, we will hold
our practice dances in conjunction with our Monday night groups. For the
last group of the month, the 7 p.m. class will meet as usual and the 8 p.m.
class will meet at 9 p.m. for class. From 8-9 p.m. we will have a practice
dance. This will make practice opportunities easier for our two most popular
classes. Anyone is welcome -- private lesson students, those from other
classes and anyone from outside the studio who wants an opportunity to dance
or is curious about learning to dance. No experience is necessary. Come and
watch or participate as you feel comfortable. There will be plenty of people
there to help you get started.
We will potentially play all types of music. Selections will be based on
who is attending. For instance if the majority of people are from the two
classes, we will use music that is especially supportive of what people are
learning in class. Although the 8 p.m. class has a broader range of dances
they are working on, those who are new to dance are encouraged to practice
regardless of what the dance "should" be. I will call out some choices and
will of course be there to help out a bit, but most of the hour you will
have an opportunity to dance whatever you like.
A very important part of learning is having the opportunity to practice.
Based on what my students have told me, it's much better for them to be
involved with dancing one night per week. They also prefer earlier hours,
early in the week and feel that an hour lesson and an hour practice dance
would be plenty.
Because this is a prime time teaching hour, I do need make sure I have
enough people participating. Admission should be paid in advance. As with
the classes, it is not refundable and there are no make ups. This policy
also benefits students by helping them commit to practice. Something my
students say they want to do more of.
The cost per person is only $5 at least one week in advance and $7
thereafter. For January, all groups are discounted from $35 to $30 anyway if
you register by December 31, 2007, so essentially the dance would be free.
It would be easiest to register for the dance at the time of registering for
class.
Of course the Practice Dances will be held at the studio. Upcoming dates
would be from 8-9 p.m. on the following dates:
May 19
There will be no practice dances in June, July or August
September 29
